Hello everyone,
It’s been a crazy two years! Almost everyone has been focused on the Covid-19 pandemic. Rightfully, the pandemic has affected us all, one way or another.
The one thing the pandemic has brought us is an understanding of how small our world really is. How people all over the world are more connected than we thought. Thanks to the internet we now know what happens all over the globe instantly – this is both good and bad. The good is if we stay positive and help each, no matter where we are or where we come from. Bad, because we tend to focus, a bit too much on the short term and negative news often outweighs the positive.
Our blog will focus going forward on Positivity. The positive things people all over the world are doing to bring us all closer together. The positive things, the Second Cup global community is doing to support each other, make our planet a healthier place and bring smiles to people all over the world.
We, as a company decided to become a fully sustainable business by the end of 2022. Every company and every person need to do their part any way they can. Little by little we can get there. As a company we support a few charities that we feel do great work. Water and Trees are something our planet and we as people can not do without.
The first charity we support is water.org. Their mission is: “To insure everyone has access to safe water and sanitation by removing barriers and advocating for system change. Their WaterCredit Initiative® solution uses microfinancing in new ways to bring small, easily repayable loans to those who need access to affordable financing and resources to make household water and sanitation solutions a reality. Water.org helps people gain access to clean water and sanitation by teaching, training, and guiding local microfinance institutions to make loans for providing clean access to clean water and sanitation. One of Water.org’s central tenets is the concept of community ownership of any water project(s).”
The second charity we support is Trees for the Future, which helps farmers through their 4-year training program called the Forest Garden Approach. This program is designed to help farmers plant thousands of trees that help to restore their soil. “This helps farmers grow a large variety of fruits and vegetables to eat and sell. So not only does each Forest Garden capture carbon and increase biodiversity, but it also ends hunger and poverty.”
I recently came across an amazing quote that I will end with: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” Mahatma Gandhi.
Have a great Day!
